Which radiators to choose for a heat pump?

Which radiators to choose for a heat pump? A heat pump is a modern solution that has all the most important features for a heating source. It allows for cheap heat production. However, we must not forget that it is a maintenance-free device. It also produces energy in an ecological way, which is also important locally. So we don’t even have to apply it to the entire environment, but only to the context of a few towns (and this convinces many people). We must not forget about the use of a small space.

For a coal or wood boiler, it is necessary to have a boiler room, since the stove itself is large. Added to this is the need for fuel storage. We must not forget about dirty combustion either.

However, all these issues do not apply to the heat pump. This is also why it is such a significant solution. In addition, the air heat pump leads to relatively low investment costs. In this variant, they are at least lower than in alternative methods. An important factor in the case of green energy sources, however, is the efficiency itself. You need to optimize it. How to do it by using the right heating system? What radiators will work best with this device?

Relatively low temperature as optimal for the device

This point should be well understood as it leads to misunderstandings. A heat pump installation will be even more effective if used as part of a suitable heating system. However, this does not change the fact that this heat source can work with traditional radiators. However, this will not be an optimal solution, as it will lead to a decrease in efficiency.

The heat pump is a low temperature device. This does not mean that it produces little heat. This means that it works most effectively if we make better use of these lower temperatures. This applies to the supply temperature of the radiators and thus to the heat dissipation. For this reason, radiators should be matched to the installation of the heat pump.

Surface heating

Surface heating itself uses lower temperatures. For this reason, it will work best with heat pumps. After all, no one will walk on the floor, the temperature of which is even 60 ℃. At the same time, these are optimal conditions for cooperation. Surface heating is most often carried out by a floor heating system. However, this does not change the fact that you can also use a wall or even a ceiling for this purpose.

Underfloor heating most often uses a supply temperature of 35 ℃. It is much more effective than traditional heaters. Efficiency is optimized in this situation. It is immediately worth adding that the floor leads to a pleasant microclimate for humans. It is the closest to the natural environment. It automatically evokes a sense of comfort in us, and this is due to the fact that it is natural for humans when the temperature near the floor is higher than it is in the case of the head.

Fan coil units

It is also worth mentioning an interesting solution that allows you to take full advantage of the possibilities offered by the use of a heat pump. This means that the cold production can be used. The same heat pump that heats can also cool. It all boils down to pressing one button, which at the same time will change the thermodynamic cycle in the opposite direction and thus the previous lower heat source will be changed to the upper one.

In addition, fan coil units operate at a relatively high efficiency. However, it is lower than in the case of surface heating. In the first place, it is worth considering the previously discussed solution, and only then lean towards fan coil units.

Traditional radiators

Again, let’s reiterate that a heat pump can work in a system that is equipped with traditional radiators. This means a decrease in its effectiveness. However, let’s immediately present the situation in which it will be most effective. The floor is a very good solution, but if it is covered with expensive tiles, it is difficult to get rid of this layer to be able to install it. Sometimes the reduced efficiency of the entire system, but the lack of additional expenditure will prove to be effective. One conclusion can be drawn immediately here.

A heat pump will be a cheaper solution if it is foreseen in advance. In this situation, it works similarly to the cost of mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. It will also be reduced if the installation of this solution is considered before the use of gravity ventilation. After all, these are technologies that work together effectively.

Ultimately, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery is a different solution, but also effective and often worth using in your company. Of course, everything has to be confronted, but there are also more factors to consider than just financial ones. A heat pump is a solution that is cheap, but we must not forget that it is also comfortable. Other advantages are no less important and thus make it such a valuable solution.
